TTB/RPG: Through the Breach – Called By Fire

Ashes have cooled. The once-brilliant star over Malifaux is now broken apart, a piece hung in the skies of every other realm. But what exactly does this mean for the Burning Man and the fanatical cultists who follow him?

In Called by Fire, the newest upcoming expansion book for Through the Breach, Fated and Fatemasters have an opportunity to include the aftereffects of the Burning Man’s destruction into their games. But what exactly is inside? Read on to find out!

As familiar readers already know, you can expect a lore section filled with history, current events, perspectives, and new material. It covers the Burning Man’s first sparks in Ephraim Wade’s head and continues past where we last left the story in Ashes of Malifaux. You’ll find while the Burning Man’s influence has waned, the current situation brings about a host of new problems for Earth, Malifaux, and beyond.

The Burned Fate Tarot is for those looking to spice up an existing Fated. It’s an add-on to the Crossroads Tarot (or whichever one you choose when making a character). Fire literally rewrites Fate, bringing new destinies and capabilities for those risking a glimpse into the spaces between.

A core mechanic of Called by Fire is Empowerment; the temporary infusing of energy that brings small but potent effects. Mastering its uses becomes particularly important for the newest Pursuit: the Adherent.

But what’s an Adherent? Well, they’re those who believe in hidden powers, secret societies, or manifesting a personal goal no matter the cost. Fated will balance madness with moments of extreme clarity, showing off that you can do anything you put your mind to… so long as you pay the price. Three new sub-Pursuits focus on the Burning Man specifically. They alter the mind, body, and soul, giving more fiery goodness for the truly devoted.

A distinct branch of Magia, known as Magia de Flammae, also steps onto the scene. Exclusive spells that benefit from Empowerment, they’re as potent and deadly as they are chaotic. You don’t need to follow the Burning Man to utilize them, but descents into madness are slippery…

Not looking to cook your brain just yet? Worry not! Called by Fire has new Magical Theories, Magia, Grimoires, and 10 new Talents suitable for Fatemasters who might not wish to set their version of Malifaux aflame… of course, they can slot in just fine if you decide to go full Cultist too.

Finally, there’s a bestiary crammed full of delightful horrors to unleash on Fated. From the terrifying Goryshche to Adeodatos himself, there’s profiles for every level of campaign.
